Highlights from the Main Stage

Carbon Pricing Mechanisms

“I agree that the carbon pricing concept will be gone by 2040, clearly it’s just one of many tools that we need to engage with. But how I’d look at it now is that it’s financing the transition.

[Carbon pricing] is one of the toolkits to attract capital to the sector to make things happen. Otherwise we are going to have this same debate year after year of ‘who’s going to pay for it?’. Well now there’s a funding mechanism that can be attractive to farmers, that can get funding back to the guy who’s doing the work we need to get done. So from that perspective I say we need to lean into it and embrace it.”

Identifying High-Impact, High-Return Opportunities

“Its a precondition that solutions must balance both ROI and impact to be successful in the market. Their ROI drives investments and more companies into the space, but they must simultaneously deliver impact on welfare, climate and environmental factors.”

Lars Horsholt Jensen, Managing Director, Agri & Food, EIFO, DENMARK

Methane Reduction

“Until very recently, the main bottleneck for methane reduction was primarily around the need for technologies and solutions. While this is still important, we’ve made great progress here – so much so that now, we must bring our attention to creating market demand and business infrastructure for these solutions.”

Linda Midgley, Senior Vice President for Cargill Animal Nutrition & Health Sustainability, CARGILL, NETHERLANDS

Preparing for EUDR Compliance

“Having a multi commodity strategy builds a very strong data infrastructure. Regardless of the commodity and origin, all the data coming from the field is centralised and harmonised. This clarity gives you a sense of control and overview before raising data issues with suppliers and origin teams, and it allows you to support implementing corrective and preventative measures. You cannot do any risk mitigation if you don’t know what is going on in your supply chain.”
